True T.Lo Stories: When I was a victim of a cat thief

**Every Saturday, I will share one of my life stories on this blog. The stories are told the way I remember them. If you are somehow involved in the story, then tough cookies. Give me my cat back. Thank you.

When I was in college, I had a cat named Dogg, and I loved him more than anything in the world.
During my last semester of college, I obtained a highly competitive internship at The Late Show with David Letterman. Knowing that I needed to take that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I had to figure out what to do with Dogg while I was away in New York City for five months.
My best friend, who also loved Dogg, agreed to take him in until my internship was over, and while I was in New York, she moved to Ithaca with Dogg to be with her boyfriend. Like my friend, her boyfriend also loved the cuddly wonder that was Dogg the cat. Things should have been awesome.

Not thinking their breakup would directly affect me was a mistake because the boyfriend decided that he got to keep custody of Dogg.

I didn't know what to do because he really, really thought he had the rights to my cat.

And although I loved the cat, I knew that he loved the cat.

So alas, I had to let Dogg go, but I figured he was with someone who loved him and I could still check up on him time to time through Facebook.

Then the boyfriend de-friended me on Facebook.
What an asshole.
The end.

  1. I wondered what happened to Dogg. I still tell people about that cat. Sad story, bro.

    1. Dogg was awesome and I miss him, but at least he's happy. :)

  2. Are you kidding me? Teresa, I don't understand, how can the dude lay claim to your cat and treat you that way? Dogg is still yours regardless of everything, right? Seriously, I am just trying to comprehend why should you suffer because of a break-up you obviously had nothing to do with. It isn't fair. I really wish you could do something to get Dogg back.

    1. At the end of the day, I'm happy that Dogg is with someone who cares about him. The ex didn't have a right to my pet, but if keeping Dogg made him happy, then so be it. :P

  3. I have to agree with you Teresa. As much as it sucks, at least the cat knapper was someone who truly cared for your cat, and will take good care of it. Unlike some people who steal a beloved pet and neglect it, as I have read about in various posts. It takes all kinds. Good outlook, though!
